This week’s recipe was a new one for me. I found it on our 30-Minute Meal Pinterest board. It’s a new take on sloppy joes and sounded like something we would like.
For this recipe, you will need:
- 1lb. ground beef
- 1 green pepper & 1 small onion
- 1/2 c. beef broth
- 1/2 T. cornstarch
- 1/4 c. A-1 steak sauce
- 1/4 t. black pepper
- 1/4 t. salt
- 2 t. steak or taco seasoning (I used steak seasoning)
- 1 t. olive oil
- Hamburger buns
- Cheese slices
The first step was to chop the green pepper and the onion. I heated the olive oil in the skillet and cooked the vegetables until they had softened.
Then I took the veggies out of the skillet and browned the ground beef. Once it was cooked through, I added the green pepper and onion to it, and the seasonings and sauce (ingredients 5-8 on the list) and stirred to combine.
Next, I mixed the cornstarch and beef broth together and then added that to the meat & veggie mixture. I let it all cook for a bit, until the liquid was pretty much absorbed – about ten minutes.
After the ten minute simmer, you’re ready to serve. The original recipe recommends serving on a toasted bun, and I’m sure that would be de-licious! I skipped that step, though I did make the hamburger buns from scratch, because that is sometimes easier than making an extra trip to the store, especially when the bread machine does some of the work! And homemade bread is Mmmm!
The last, and arguably, most important step is the addition of the cheese. I used basic yellow slices. After topping the meat with the cheese, I microwaved the sandwich for a few seconds so that the cheese would melt all gooey and pretty.
This was a good supper! My husband said it was a meal he would enjoy having regularly.
And it really did take about thirty minutes to make the sloppy joes, so it’s definitely an option on those nights when 30 minutes is all the time you have!
Enjoy!
