Do you want to encourage writing in your children?

Sometimes the best motivation to get your children to write is to introduce them to a real live writer!

There’s something awe-inspiring in meeting someone who has written an entire book, especially if it’s a book that you have read!

The Titanic Museum Attraction in Branson is hosting an Author Week March 18-24th. You’ll have a chance to meet six celebrated authors of Titanic historical books and novels. You could even meet Helen Benziger, the great-granddaughter of Molly Brown, who was a passenger on the Titanic if you come on Tuesday or Wednesday.

And homeschool families can take advantage of the special homeschool family pricing through the end of April of $8.50 per student, and one parent can get this same rate.

Before you go though, be sure to check out all the educational activities offered on their website. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • Rev. John Brown offered hope and help to the passengers in the freezing waters. What made him a hero? You can watch this video, and then look for his story at the museum.
  • Be sure to download the Titanic Scavenger Hunt, and look for hints throughout the museum.
  • Conduct some science experiments about buoyancy and water pressure. And when you visit, be sure to test how long you can keep your hand in the frigid waters.

About the Author

Shari Popejoy, wife of twenty-eight years, mother of three, founder of a local co-op for hundreds of homeschool children, author of seven books, and creator of Won Without Words (a blog of encouragement for wives) lives in the quiet country of the Ozarks where she enjoys writing surrounded by nature (and her children, of course). She is currently completing Volume V of the Livingstone Library, an adventure series for 'smart' kids, which features characters with character, and underlying allegorical spiritual truths. She enjoys high places and the road less traveled, and moments when all is well, and peace permeates like a fragrance. . .oh, and chocolate, fresh fruit and veggies, and early morning sunrises.
