Student Writing Contest for children ages 6-12

I-rish I may

I-rish I write

Have the wish I write tonight!

Do you have a child who likes to write? Can they make up stories or poems? Do they spend their time making little books for you?

Then, encourage them to enter the Irish Upon A Star writing contest!

This is a fun contest for elementary students, with a fun prize package that includes a family pass to the Titanic Museum Attraction in Branson, Missouri, T is for Titanic book and teacher’s guide, and more!

There are no writing rules. In the fun spirit of our Irish friends, this is a fun contest that rewards creative, interesting, and fun writing.

Poems, stories, reports, fairytales, songs — anything Irish might strike our fancy!

Word length depends on the writing. A poem might be only 100 words, and a fairytale might be 800!

Young students can dictate their story to their parents, but the words must be their own creation. Spelling, grammar, and punctuation are important — but given the choice, we’d rather see creative and fun entries over perfectly punctuated pristine papers!!!

So, have fun doing some Irish research, then get your jig on, and help them enter the contest by Friday, 3/15/13  here!

You might get some inspiration by visiting the Titanic Museum Attraction’s website.

And here are some students who won a recent writing contest, and will be visiting the Titanic Museum! This might give you some ideas!

And. . . if you like this facebook page, I’ll be posting ideas to take real-life learning about Ireland and all things Irish, and turn it into creative writing for this contest!
